Summertime and the blogging’s easy

Can you tell I’ve been a bit bored with the bloggie? It’s summer. The kids are with me a lot. I’m sweaty. I’m renovating my house. I’ve been working more than I planned to. No one’s reading blogs anymore. There are too many blogs out there.

Excuses, excuses.

A long-time reader of this blog, who also lives in Asheville, told me recently that I wasn’t putting as much personal stuff out there. He’s right. I started getting burned by the haters. As the Dixie Chicks sing so eloquently: “The calls and conversations, accidents and accusations, messages and misperceptions, paralyze my mind.” I hear ya, Natalie.

Also, with my column’s success, I suddenly have a small (very small) measure of local noteriety. And truth be told, I get a bit weirded out when people I’ve never met recognize me.

I’ve also come to understand that the Internets is an unforgiving bitch, and whatever you put out there is nigh near impossible to delete–or take back entirely–what with caches and feeds.

So, yes, I’m a little less personal, perhaps. A little dull. And I’m spending most of my creative energy on my paid writing these days.

Perhaps I should delete the bloggie. Is it worth keeping if I only update once or twice a week? You tell me.

Now you understand how FREAKY it was to show up at your house for a party and people I never met know me. Well.

    *shudder*

The weirdness was a little more then this girl can handle.

I mean, your readers/friends are cool. But it is/was a bit strange.

Now when it happens, I’m happy because it means my business is getting out there. But my online life is Purely Business these days aside from reading a blog or two.

I find I feel a million times saner.

Pretty much the reason I never started a blog. However, I would miss hearing what ‘the boy’or ‘the girl’ said or the latest adventures of Rocky and Biscuit. It’s those little moments, when written by a good writer, that make it fun. (or, funny) A note here and there, a picture of the cat. I still remember a picture of Rocky laying at the top of some stairs with his feet straight up in the air. Just a classic “cat” moment. Another picture of Houdini and the Squirrel was priceless and your comment on the whole deal made me laugh.

I don’t want you to get personal, although I do miss the flirty-ness of the early days. But, that’s the natural evolution of most relationships isn’t it? Once you get to know each other it’s kinda hard to keep the flirty-ness going for ever.

So the relationship grows and changes. If your hart ain’t in it, it’s tough to do. The easy, breezy times may be gone but it sure has been a sweet ride.

Here’s another vote for letting your blog live. Even those of us who don’t have kids enjoy reading about the things yours say and do (and its a primer for us when we do have our own). Plus the critters don’t get featured in the Xpress column, so this is the one place they get their spotlight. And finally, you often have good recommendations for books, music, other blogs, events, etc.

I look forward to reading Edgy mama once a week, and I love your perspective even without the “personal.” If you’re happy writing it, please keep it up. The local eating piece was great!

I hear ya. I had to take a break from bloggies, myself. Always enjoy reading your writings.

I would love to see your bloggie stay! Since I reside in Greensboro, I am vicariously living my dream life in Asheville through your perspective. Even if you ditch the personal, I still love to read about the goings-on in the mountains. I keep a small blog for our friends and family to read about our daughter as she grows… and I know how hard it is to keep it updated (I haven’t touched it in a month)! If you do decide to delete it, I will still catch your articles on mountainx.com.

Thanks for the support, y’all. I guess I’ll limp on for a while, at least so I can continue to pimp my paid writing.

I think it’s okay to still have a blog, as long as the personal stuff you share is just stuff you would be happy for anyone to know. It still keeps people up to date or lets them hear a funny story. I guess it depends what you want the blog to be in the end. I enjoy hearing the bits and pieces that don’t end up making it into a polished column on a particular theme, but it’s your blog after all.

Crap. Just when I finally devote my entire waking life to reading blogs you tell me that nobody is reading blogs any more.

Please don’t tell me that I now must stoop to … (urp) … texting.

Keep the blog. The fires will light again.

A wise sage once told me (actually it was a TV news reporter and was last night) – you must ignore those people who critisize with ugly comments,”they are at home all alone eating cheetos” and just being haters. It’s all self projection.
Personal is good if you like being personal – the world really is beginning to lack personal due to the HYPE of everything in TV and internet.
At the very least, at least you are not being sued for $20 million over your blog, as I am right now! :)

I hear ya, Leslie. And damn, I heard about your crazy situation. I think you should come to the BlogAsheville party and we’ll pass the hat for legal fees (ok, that’d be a mere drop, but we can offer emotional support too)!

EM, you have to keep blogging… I think blogging allows us to write in a stress free place where we only have to please ourselves. We can be petty or selfish on our blogs where we don’t have that freedom when we are getting paid to write.

Also, as you mentioned, it is almost impossible to take back what you say, however, it also makes what you say last forever and that means that years from now people may do a Google search on something that you wrote and it might help them get through a hard time or make their life a little easier. Who knows? Wow, I suddenly sound like a drunk therapist just babbling on… I’ll shut up now, but only if you promise to keep blogging.

Don’t delete the blog – let it stand for the kind of writing that you DONT get paid for… the banal with the exciting, the boring with the profound, just as it comes.

A lot more like life if you ask me.

(Do you still remember me? I’m one of the little guys you knew before people were fawning and pawing at you. I’m zen. We sat around drinking tea doing DITLOA together. :) )

That wasn’t tea we were drinking, zen!
