A couple of weeks ago I blogged about Asheville Girl Scout Wild Freeborn, who, via a YouTube video and some social media savvy, was trying to sell enough boxes of Girl Scout cookies to send her entire troop to GS camp for a week.

I bought 4 boxes from Wild, who told me she ended up selling around 700 total boxes, all to folks in the Asheville area (not enough to send the entire troop to camp, but still impressive). Despite her initiative and business aptitude, the Girl Scouts’ national organization made Wild remove the YouTube video, as they have an archaic rule about not selling on-line (which in truth, Wild wasn’t. No $ went over the Internets).

Two days ago, Newsweek published a story about Wild, which garnered hundreds of comments. Today Wild and her dad, Bryan Freeborn, are heading up to NYC to make an appearance on The Today Show.

Congrats to Wild for trying, inadvertantly, to drag the Girl Scouts into the 21st century. Sometimes, kids really do have the best ideas.

You may have noticed that this bloggie disappeared for about 24 hours.

My wonderful, local web host says tens of thousands of folks hit this site yesterday morning, for no clear reason, which knocked the server out.

We’re trying to ascertain whether I was linked somewhere huge (like the NYT) or whether it was what my guy (insidedesign) says was a coordinated zombie attack. Did you know there are zombies trolling the Internets? I didn’t, but I’m honored, I think, that my blog might be considered yummy brains.

Another option is someone taking offense to something (lactation? mercury in food stuffs?) attacked the site, which also is rather exciting.

Or as my friend, Don Mak, twittered last night, “Writing about boobs always takes out a server.” Hmmmmm.

Anyway, to mix it up some more, here are my photos from Sunday’s nurse-in and the Mt. X story about the event.

On Monday, the first day of spring break, it snowed for about two hours. Nothing stuck, but watching the flakes spin around the yellow daffodils was beautiful.

There’s a tree in the yard next door that flowers early every spring. In the six years I’ve lived here, the tree has been spanked by a freeze every year but one. It sprouts these gorgeous pink, tulip-shaped flowers. But within days, it will freeze, and all the flowers will turn brown. This is a tree that needs global warming.

Top is the tree in April 2003, when we didn’t have a late March or April freeze. Below is the tree yesterday, after three days of freezing weather.

This goat and his herd are owned by some friends of ours who live outside of Canton. They live on the side of a mountain and have rocking views of the back of Pisgah. Do you think the goats appreciate the views?

When I saw Bryan knocking on doors, I grabbed my camera and ran after him. I said, “Hi, I’m Anne Fitten Glenn. Do you mind if I take some photos for Day in the Life of Asheville?” He paused for a moment, then said, “Oh, you’re Edgy Mama.”

I’ve got to stop running around Asheville in workout clothes with dirty hair and no make-up. Although my new Tee is pretty cute.
